Real results

Selected benefits of how eCityRisk is currently helping its clients

Increased confidence in initial loss estimates
Through using real-world damage characteristics to calculate ground-up loss, an initial public estimate can be issued with increased certainty. For example, an eCityRisk client calculated post-Ike business interruption losses for high-value industrial facilities based on damage assessed from eCityRisk’s observation oriented imagery captured days after the landfall.

Independent results
Real-world damage observations provide an independent check on modelled loss estimates. This has been achieved for multiple US and European events, with eCityRisk’s clients identifying impacted contacts and damage levels using observation oriented flood footprints.

Technical expertise
By outsourcing data collection and delivery, GIS and analytical personnel are freed up for other crucial response tasks. Many of eCityRisk’s clients contract out their entire post-disaster aerial and satellite data collection and processing programmes to eCityRisk experts.

Improved resource allocation
Reliable information about the location and severity of damage enables companies to confidently plan their deployment of claims adjustors. For example, an eCityRisk client used Katrina flood footprints to plan and prioritise claims activities.

Avoid potential downgrades
By considering observered damage, boost the confidence of ratings agencies, analysts and investors in your initial loss estimate and reduce the likelihood of losses increasing with accurate data from the start. In the case of Ike, Bermuda-based reinsurers who released early figures using modelled estimates had to make major adjustments of up to 120%, while those who held back and sourced several alternative perspectives based on observation oriented ground-up calculations faced smaller adjustments.
